Expungement Clinic
MidPenn Attorneys Judith Kline and Angelica Matias at the expungement and pardon clinic. The event took place at the DoubleTree in Reading and was hosted by Magisterial District Judges Tonya Butler and Carissa Johnson. The event was sponsored by state Sen. Judy Schwank, Berks Connections/Pretrial Services, MidPenn Legal Services, and the Berks County Bar Association. 107 Berks County residents attended and received assistance at Thursday evenings expungement and pardon clinic.

Eliz Nestorov - Women of Excellence
1/5/2023 - Congratulations to our Director of Development Eliz Nestorov on being selected as a member of the YWCA Greater Harrisburg Tribute to Women of Excellence Class of 2023. In addition to her work at MidPenn she is also active in a variety of local and international groups such as the Diversity & Inclusion Professionals of Central PA, World Affairs Council of Harrisburg, Women in International Security, U.S. Global Leadership Coalition and many more. The Tribute to Women of Excellence will be taking place Wednesday, March 29 at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center.

9/2/2022 - MidPenn is excited to announce that we have received a grant from the Lancaster County Community Foundation to train its staff on issues of diversity, equity and inclusion as they continue to work to provide high quality civil legal services on behalf of vulnerable and marginalized populations. MidPenn Deputy Director Laurie Baughman (left) and Director of Development Eliz Nestorov (right) recently attended the Opening Encounter experience with Tony Hernandez (center), and the rest of the grantees. Tony Hernandez' workshop was about Points of View.

6/21/22 - Congratulations to retired MidPenn Staff John Mitton, Esq. and Carolyn Sexton. At the York County (PA) Bar Association/York County Bar Foundation's Annual Recognition Dinner, John was presented with the PBA Civil Legal Aid Attorney of the Year Award and Carolyn was presented with the PBA Pro Bono Partner Award for their distinguished careers and dedication to the provision of legal services.

Operation Santa
12/15/2021 - MidPenn’s Lancaster office participated in Operation Santa for the 4th year in a row. This gift giving project is sponsored by the Lancaster Bar Association to make sure that the children living at the Transitional Living Center received gifts from Santa.

Don Smith Volunteer of the Year!
9/22/21 - Berks County Attorney Donald F. Smith, Jr., received the 2021 Volunteer of the Year Award at MidPenn's Access to Justice event on September 22, 2021. The award was in recognition of the extraordinary work Attorney Smith has done in the area of housing law. The virtual celebration honored members of the legal profession who have made significant contributions toward achieving Equal Justice for all members of our community. The law firm of McNees, Wallace & Nurick were received the 2021 Law Firm Award for their outstanding pro bono commitment and support of MidPenn's mission. Kay Pickering from the Harrisburg Center for Peace and Justice was presented the Volunteer Award for her collaborative work with MidPenn advocates. The Honorable Judge Carolyn H. Nichols was the keynotes speaker.
