3/23/2021 - Matthew Rich, Esq., began his career as an intern with MidPenn Legal Services in 2006. After finishing his undergraduate degree, Matt enrolled in law school and began working full-time as a housing paralegal with MidPenn. Following his graduation, Matt was hired as a staff attorney handling housing cases, and he became the lead housing attorney just one year later. In the last decade, Matt has become a housing law expert, especially in landlord/tenant law. His advocacy led to rule changes that benefit his clients and other marginalized Pennsylvanians. In particular, Matt is regarded for his work to get local Housing Authorities to recognize their responsibility to provide "reasonable accommodations" for tenants with mental health and physical disabilities. In addition, Matt began training MDJ's on landlord/tenant law in 2017, and he regularly trains attorneys at local county bar associations as well as PLAN's Statewide Conference. MidPenn Ombudsman
With long-term care facilities closed to visitors, MidPenn Schuylkill County Long-Term Care Ombudsman, Eileen Barlow, has changed the scope of her work by assisting at the Pottsville Senior Resource Center delivering meals to home-bound seniors through the Meals on Wheels Program.
Meals are generally delivered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; however, due to the increase in social distancing, the delivery days have been reduced to Monday and Wednesday. On non-delivery days, Eileen assists with prepping and packing.
This particular route encompasses St. Clair Borough where 20-27 consumers are serviced. The daily totals continue to increase since the closure of the Senior Centers county-wide on March 16 and extension of social distancing.
