News & Notes

If you’re new to the tea game, here’s a breakdown of some of the main types of healthy teas and why you should start drinking them right away.

Gettysburg Times - More than a dozen law enforcement members were recently recognized for going 'above and beyond' the call of duty. The Adams County Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Task Force held an awards' breakfast at the Adams County Department of Emergency Services building last week to honor local police departments and staff for their work in the community.

Adams County Assistant District Attorney Sara Miller said the breakfast was a way to "thank law enforcement for putting the time in their cases." Describing the cases, Miller said they are "time-consuming, emotional, and you never know what you are going to walk into."

York Dispatch - A free clinic on May 22 will help York County residents seal prior criminal records and expunge non-convictions from those records.
MidPenn Legal Services, the York County Bar Association and the York County Bar Foundation are sponsoring the clinic from 5 to 7 p.m. Volunteer attorneys will be on hand to educate the community on the current law and recent changes to the criminal justice codes. The goal is to assist those eligible in expunging and/or permanently sealing their prior criminal records.

Benefits from getting non-convictions expunged is to help those seeking employment can truthfully say that they have never been convicted of a crime. More than 80% of employers conduct criminal background checks on employee candidates, organizers say. Criminal records hinder job prospects. Finding an apartment is also made more difficult with a criminal record. Landlords do criminal background checks on potential tenants. A conviction or arrest makes it less likely to secure that apartment or landlords may charge higher rents or require a bigger deposit.
