Last year, more than
1000 attorneys participated in pro bono activities in the
eighteen counties served by MidPenn.
Through their efforts, 3,062 cases were closed for
clients who would otherwise be unable to afford legal counsel.
The types of programs
vary across MidPenn’s service area, but in each there is a
close working relationship with the local Bar Association. In
some cases, MidPenn administers the program.
In other cases, the local Bar coordinates it. The
cooperation and support of the local Bar Associations is an
intricate part of each program’s success.
There are currently sixteen
active programs, many of which have been in existence for many
years. MidPenn is
working to establish programs in counties where none currently
exist, particularly with the Bench and Bar of Bedford County.

Pro bono attorney Jennifer
Swigart-Newman is congratulated by Harvey Reeder,
President-Elect of the MidPenn Board of Directors for completing
five years of volunteer service in Huntingdon County.
