Attorney Position available in Northern Schuylkill
The attorney will work on stabilizing the housing
situations (both homeowner and rental) of residents in five boroughs in
Northern Schuylkill County that have suffered from the foreclosure
crisis, unemployment and declining population. The communities are
Ashland, Frackville, Girardville, Mahanoy City and Shenandoah.
The attorney will be responsible for outreach and
community education in the targeted area. The attorney, in
connection with community partners, will assist area residents in
accessing available social service programs such as property tax
rebates, utility agreements, home and community based waiver services,
weatherization, home modification loans and others. The project
goals also include developing new programs such as standards for
municipal utilities for low-income and elderly repayment agreements.
The ideal applicant will be a self-starter, committed
to helping and advocating for low-income individuals and communities.
Experience in public benefits, housing and consumer law is useful.
This position likely will be located in a satellite office in the target
area, with supervision by the Managing Attorney for the Pottsville
(Schuylkill County) office.
